About Aster
A daily almanac for watching the sky, understanding science and making things, free and in two languages.
What Aster is
Aster is an online almanac. Every day brings something to look at, read or play: night-sky guides, The Weekly Report with the week’s most interesting stories in space, science, technology and music, an encyclopedia of short entries, four daily games, and free tools for making things and making music.
How we work
Articles are signed by the Aster editorial team. We check every fact against its source and link to it, so you can read the original. When a fact changes or we get something wrong, we correct it and say so on the same page.
NASA images are used with their credit; their use does not mean NASA endorses Aster. Uncredited illustrations are our own.
We don’t accept payment for reviews or recommendations. If we recommend something, it’s because we think it’s worth it.
Tools that keep your files
The Workshop and the Studio run inside your browser. The images you cut out or compress and the sound the tuner listens to are never uploaded to any server. More on the privacy page.
Free
Aster is free and needs no account. In the future it may show ads to cover its costs; before turning them on we’ll update the privacy and cookie pages.
