Glowing storage drives receiving data from small robotic armsAI-generated image

Dropbox announced it is acquiring Tigris Data, a cloud storage company founded by former Uber engineers, for $350 million, which appears to be its largest acquisition ever. Tigris automatically moves data closer to the people and computers that use it, so it loads faster. Dropbox wants it to power DBX Agent Cloud, a new storage service for people building AI models and agents.

Why it matters

AI agents need somewhere to store files and pick up where they left off between tasks. Companies you know for storing photos and documents are now competing to be that place.

For the technical crowd

The deal is expected to close in Q4 2026. DBX Agent Cloud will launch as Amazon S3-compatible object storage, later adding documents, images, audio and video, plus filesystem features for agents. Dropbox says it has no plans for layoffs tied to the deal.
