Tencent launches Hy4, its first model that sees images and operates software on its own

AI-generated imageTencent unveiled Hy4, a language model that understands images and can operate software by itself, something its earlier versions couldn't do. It's already available on Tencent Cloud, on OpenRouter and in company apps such as the Yuanbao chatbot. Tencent says it will release the model weights later, but hasn't yet. On the Artificial Analysis index it ranks second among models from Chinese labs, behind Kimi K3.1 Pro.
Why it matters
China keeps adding low-cost models that compete with the big US players. More affordable options tend to bring down the cost of the AI apps you use every day, though Hy4 still trails the best models in math, long coding projects and complex image analysis.
For the technical crowd
Pricing: about $0.83 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens. Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index: 35 points (Kimi K3.1 Pro scores 46). On AA-Omniscience it answers about half of factual questions correctly and, when it doesn't know, makes up an answer 89% of the time. Tencent says its web-research hallucination rate fell from nearly 16% to about 5%, and a faster variant, Hy4 flash, is planned.
